Bob is back posting on his site, So so good to see him Back: 2/22/09, Meridian, MS - In the hospital (and I will be for a while). But, like the mythological winged horse - Phoenix, we will be rising to continue the journey. Before that day, I’ll have to do quite a bit of mending, build a wagon, acquire a couple of new horses and train them. No insurmountable tasks, but nothing that’s going to occur real soon. In the short term, my first task ahead of me is to mend an awful lot of broken parts. In the mean time, I would like to thank all the wonderful people who have stepped up with their prayers, best wishes, offers to help, assistance and much else. I haven’t had an opportunity to see all that has be been written, but I sampled a lot that has been written and I would like to extend my thank you. I would also like to thank my family and friends and others who responded with their immediate help - Thank You! I’ll be checking in from time to time with up dates on how it’s going. The trip is by no means over - it has just be delayed while things are restructured.

Can you tell me where you found the blog from Bob? I looked on his site and it isn't in the Where's Bob part. If it's in with the map then I can't get that part on dialup. I just would like to keep up with how he is. Thanks for letting me know where he is posting.

CabWolf, I am sorry you are negative about this. Unless you have been in his shoes you have no idea what he is dealing with! You are so wrong! I have been in Bob's shoes. I was hit head on by a semi, everything except my right arm was busted and I had a closed head injury. When a person is hurt that bad (as Bob is) then it's not that you don't care about your animals, it's that you are fighting so hard for yourself and to keep it together and function that all else is on the back burner. You still think about your animals but it is out of your hands for awhile and every bit of your energy has to be on yourself. Like I said, unless you have walked in his shoes you might keep your negatives to yourself. Also while dwelling on the death of two horses I think you should keep in mind that two horses, his dog and himself all lived! That is the best part. It's too bad that you can' be happy for the outcome of this terrible accident and forget being so petty.

Dear Cabwolf 64, I too rode with Bob for a day and got to know what kind of guy he is. You know, by riding with him, how much he cared for his friends. Don't judge him too harshly because he did not mention it in his posting. It was a note of hope and positive thoughts. Remember that he is recovering from a severe trauma and the fact that he wrote to us at all must have been very trying and tiring for him. When Bob was planning his route for the day I spent with him, he considered many factors. He looked at the grade of any hills he would have to take, the type of road, if there were shoulders and how heavy the traffic would be. During the ride his horses did not spook once. They didn't even raise their heads as traffic went by. Bob constantly looked in his rearview mirror. If there was a line of traffic behind him he pulled to the side of the rode. Put his horses in danger? No.

CabWolf64; I am so sorry that you feel that way and are negative about Bob and his blogs. Its just wonderful that he is able to blog at all, as the saying goes"walk a mile in his shoes" After a near death situation and all the medicine he has had, plus being in the hospital for several days unless you have been there you don't know what the mind is going to remember or shut out for a while. His memory will probably come back but if it doesn't that's ok too. Did you stop to think that maybe he didn't even know about the horses at that time? Don't be so quick to judge. You said you rode with him for several hours, you were one of the lucky ones, many of us would love to have had the chance. You can tell by the way he talks and writes that he loved his horses and took good care of them. Just because he drove down the roads doesn't show that he didn't care about their welfare. You could tell by the way he took different routes to get to the southern states that he was always putting his horses first, depending on the hills and grades. I would always look at the map and say "I wonder why he went this way instead of another way", but he was always thinking of the horses and talking to the local people to find the best way to travel. People need to slow down and be aware of whats around them and look far enough ahead down the road and be prepared to stop. I know here in FL a truck driver hit a van with 5 children and killed them all and he was at fault. In this case no human life was lost but 2 horses lost their lives, because a truck driver wasn't paying attention. So please give Bob a chance to heal and get well before you start finding fault. Right now he needs all the positive thoughts he can get as he still has a long healing period ahead of him.

This was posted on Bobs site about the Horses
2/24/09. Dekalb, MS - I wasn’t quite up to the trip, but my sister Debbie went down to Dekalb yesterday to visit the surviving horses. It would have been a tough trip for me - both physically and emotionally. Seeing the other two without the gray mares would have been tough. It will also be very up lifting when I finally make the trip.
The horses are resting comfortably at Dr. Billy Calvert’s place in Dekalb. Dr. Calvert responded on the call to treat the horses. Crawling amounst wreckage with some wounded 2000 draft horses requires a lot of guts and is something not everyone could do - I really pass the hat to Dr. Calvert on that one.
It looks like both came through the ordeal in pretty good shape. Joyce has a minor wound on her hindquarters that is coming along nicely. Doc has a larger fleshwound on the hindquarters that looks like it will heal fine as well.
The bottom picture shows Dr. Calvert inspecting Doc’s wound.
I’m not sure how the new team will look, but I doubt it will include Joyce. At 16 years old, she’s about ready for a retirement pasture. I guess we’ll have to see what the future will bring. One thing is for sure - It won’t quite be the same without old Deedee and Dolly
Thanks to everyone that has helped with the horses!.

Cabwolf I don't understand how you could spend several hours with Bob and say that he doesn't care for his horses. You can't read his blog and not know how much he cares for them. let along be with him. You are either so self absorbed that you don't know what is going on in the world around you or just completely clueless.
